Character (Game Transplant)
Name: Akiha Tohno
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Canon: Tsukihime
Canon Point: Post-Kohaku Route
Former Game: Queen of Hearts
Canon History: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Akiha_Tohno
Game History:
Akiha was lucky when she was first summoned to the Garden, for her maid Hisui was already there. The place she'd been kidnapped to was an odd one. A paradise, in a way, it had a unique magic about it that allowed residents to take 'magical mud' from the wild areas and use it to create any number of items, from clothing to buildings, and there was plenty of game to hunt and fruits to gather. There were also cats, a lot of cats, that served the Queen of Hearts which aided the residents when they got lost.
Through the work of her maid, Akiha had her mansion back in Misaki City recreated. She felt no need to live in less style than she was used to, nor did her maid even need to be told to create the mansion. The two of them lived there alone while Akiha adjusted to this weird place where there were no men and there was an unnatural emphasis on romance. As Akiha was already in love with someone (a boy nonetheless), she resented the Queen's implications and wishes. She did not have plans on opening her home or her heart to anyone at that woman's insistence.
Soon enough, that would change as one of the incidents caused a bleeding woman to appear on the network asking for help. Akiha had been denying herself the blood she craved, being half-demon, and had been doing a very good job of ignoring it until she saw all that blood. Feeling her demon half press against her willpower, Akiha went hunting for someone to drink from. Luck had it that Kris Loop happened to be out by herself for a walk. Akiha had talked to the mage over the network before and had decided she was an idiot, possibly even a simpleton, and therefore an easy target. She sneaked up on Kris and effectively restrained her from spellcasting. Kris didn't resist, but she did argue against Akiha, so the half-demon agreed to take care of her afterward.
True to her word, after drinking Kris' blood, Akiha brought the girl back to the mansion to clean up and recover. She also told Kris not to tell anyone about the blood-drinking. Kris effectively blackmailed Akiha into letting her move into the mansion in exchange for both her silence and access to her blood. Hisui brought up the lake of blood the Garden had in a cave, but Kris had played her cards well in pointing out that fresh blood would taste better. Still, Akiha would only drink from Kris maybe once a week while supplementing the rest of her cravings with the blood from the lake.
During the next several months, Akiha met other residents of the Garden. Some she tolerated and some she hated. When monsters from another realm invaded the Garden, Akiha opened up her mansion as a refuge to the Garden residents. She did this not because she truly wanted to protect the other people, but because it was only proper for a Tohno to do such a thing. It was at this time that she met Lambda-11 – a combat cyborg that had no real sense of how to be a person that Akiha brought into her fold as a guard. She also began teaching Lambda how to be a girl, how to act human, and had far more patience with her than she would just about anyone else because Lambda didn't question her orders and followed them as if Akiha was her master/commander.
So many were trying to fight against the Queen of Hearts and the little games she played, that while unusually calm and hard to rile up (influenced unknowingly by the Queen), Akiha decided to see if she could reason with the Queen in a proper way. After all, she was supposed royalty and maybe, for once, Akiha could get more information with honey than vinegar. She invited the Queen to join her for tea one evening at the mansion. Surprisingly, the Queen of Hearts accepted the invitation and indeed showed up. Over tea, Akiha and the Queen discussed the Garden and what the purpose of it was, though Akiha ended up gaining any real knowledge she didn't have afterward and a inability to decide if the Queen was even worthy of the contempt she'd had for her before, considering how overly bubbly and almost airheaded the Queen seemed. It was definitely impressed upon Akiha that there was more inside of her to give, despite Akiha's protests that she was already in love. Foolishly, Akiha had the belief that it was only possible to ever love one person at a time. She was afraid that if she did fall in love with someone (gender really wasn't an issue with her due to her canon point), it would mean that she stopped loving Shiki. That thought scared her as Shiki was her whole world back home, even if she had fully accepted that he would never love her back.
Hisui left the Garden and Akiha was, in a way, on her own. There was now no one to clean her clothes, to clean the house, to make her meals, to do all the tedious things she had been raised to see as beneath her. So... she took on one of the other girls to be her cook. Gal moved into the mansion and the numbers within continued to grow.
The Queen continued to play her tricks and brought Akiha into conflict with a soldier named Katina Tarask. Katina was from the future – a mecha pilot – and the complete opposite of Akiha. Whereas she was high class and skilled with etiquette and the arts, Katina was an uncouth brute as far as Akiha was concerned. They argued a lot with Akiha talking down to Katina as she believed she was better than her and Katina treating her like a prissy bitch. This intense dislike came to a head when the Queen decided to put mistletoe all over the Garden. Anyone caught underneath it was trapped by an unseen force field along with the person caught with them until they kissed. Akiha and Katina ended up trapped together and refused to kiss. They were trapped in the bubble for a while, eventually ignoring each other, before Katina believed Akiha was asleep. Wanting to get away, she thought she could sneak a kiss on Akiha and run before the girl woke, but Akiha hadn't been asleep at all. She took offense to this attempt and turned it into an angry kiss before shoving Katina away, yelling at her and stalking off.
As much as Akiha tried to avoid it, tried to keep Kris away, the mage eventually grew on her, becoming more than just a convenient source of blood. She never treated Kris well, constantly calling her lazy and an idiot. Kris just took it all, smiling and weaseling her way into Akiha's heart. It had always been hard to get close to Akiha, but once someone did, they were almost like a possession to Akiha. Her relationship with Kris was not a healthy one as she didn't treat Kris well and knew it. It was just the way she was and Kris took it, always saying that Akiha was really nice to her. It seemed like she meant it, which only supported Akiha's earlier assessment that Kris was an idiot. She simply could not understand why Kris was the way she was. Kris even told her once that she thought she might love Akiha, which completely blew Akiha's mind and made her avoid Kris for a while and then treat her even worse. How could anyone love her, she thought? She hated herself for being a monster (half-demon).
Kris' persistence got Akiha to at least stop being extra mean, which was good since Akiha had stopped drinking the lake's blood completely when other forces in the Garden revealed some secrets that caused Akiha to draw the conclusion that the blood in the lake was actually the Queen's blood. Stubbornly refusing to drink that woman's blood – especially after this Kris thing (who else would make someone fall in love with her) – she needed Kris' blood more regularly.
Unfortunately, it didn't help much as the stress of everything got to Akiha at a time when she was low on blood. An ill-timed argument with Katina caused Akiha to invert. With her demon half in control, Akiha almost killed Katina, and continued to terrorize and feed on various people in the Garden. One of the hero-types, Fiona, fought against her with a powerful sword and managed to wound her, though she also almost died. Akiha had left her unconscious and returned to the mansion. And there was Kris, trying to take care of her, trying to heal her... and willingly giving herself up to Akiha. While inverted, Akiha was vicious when she bit into Kris and almost drained her dry. That self-sacrifice of Kris made Akiha snap back into control when she realized what she'd done to Kris. No longer inverted and upset that she'd hurt someone who really did care for her, even knowing how much of a monster she was, Akiha finally accepted that maybe Kris really did love her.
A few days later, Akiha openly apologized over the network to those she hurt. Some accepted her apology, like Katina, after questions were answered. Some wanted nothing to do with her. Her cook refused to come back. And one person attempted to kill her for the harm she'd done to one of their friends. Amamiya announced her intentions not long before breaking into the mansion and tried to kill Akiha. The two of the fought and Akiha did not end up unscathed, and though she could have killed Amamiya, she refused to. The fight did draw Kris out of her room, and the mage eventually involved herself, using her magic to aid Akiha in the fight. When Amamiya used a powerful mental attack that deeply affected Akiha, Kris tried to kill the girl. The only reason she survived was because Akiha wouldn't let Kris kill her. She told Amamiya to go then, but if she ever came back that her life would be forfeit.
(It is shortly after this that I would like to have Akiha's Queen of Hearts import game point. If more detailed history is needed for beyond this point, I will gladly provide it. It mostly consisted of a silly egg event that brought Akiha and Katina together and made them realize the two of them argued to cover up the attraction they felt toward each other. Kris was temporarily kidnapped by a monster, Akiha almost inverted again as a result but stopped herself. Pirates invaded.)
Personality:
Akiha was raised in a strict environment where the focus was on learning to be a proper lady of a high-born, rich family. Fun and personal growth wasn't emphasized and from age eight, when tragedy struck her family, she was moved from just being the daughter of the Tohno family to the future head of the Tohno family. Things only became stricter, and she was banned from seeing the most important person in her life – her adopted brother, Shiki. He was her ray of sunshine in a cold environment that would drag her outside of the mansion to play like any child should. With him gone, Akiha became an ice queen.
Condescending and callous, Akiha is best described as having a heart of ice when it comes to strangers and almost all of her acquaintances. She has very, very few friends, and she's perfectly okay with that. She doesn't need validation from her peers, and she doesn't mince words. To Akiha, it doesn't matter who a person is or how old they are – none of them deserve special treatment or coddling in her opinion. If she sees one's flaws, she's sure to ruthlessly point them out almost as if she was specifically looking for them.
All this makes Akiha very much a bitch, and many of the girls at her boarding school are scared of her. Her harshness sometimes escalates to physical violence to get her point across and she's quite unmerciful. Akiha doesn't adjust to the world around her; she expects it to adjust to her. For example, she expects and demands neatness in her life to the extent that she will throw away a 'strange' bag placed on her desk in her dorm room at school even though it clearly belonged to one of her roommates simply because she's told her roommates not to leave their stuff on her desk. When asked about it, Akiha describes the possible fate of the bag as if the roommate should have known that was going to happen and it was none of Akiha's concern what was in it. And this particular roommate was in the small sector of people that could be considered Akiha's friends.
Because Akiha is half-demon, she possesses a very dark sadism she suppresses with her will. She's acutely aware of it, having inverted (given in to her demon side) already, and she tends to feel the urges around anyone that would make good 'prey', such as one of the younger student council members that wears her emotions on her sleeve. Akiha's will is tremendous, so she can keep it under control regardless of the dark thoughts and urges.
Despite all of this, despite being cold and uncaring, Akiha is extremely protective of those she cares about. Her maids, her adopted brother and her roommates get to see a slightly warmer girl. Slightly. She's still harsh and unrelenting in her manner, still expecting them to meet her standards, but she will protect them, will laugh and enjoy herself around them. In fact, Akiha is in love with her adopted brother, Shiki, and always has been. Around him, with him, she can allow herself to be a softer girl, to let some vulnerability in and be true to her emotions. Akiha is very possessive of Shiki and gets jealous very easily when other girls show interest in him. Given Shiki's lazy and, from her perspective, inconsiderate nature, Shiki often infuriates her, especially when he involves himself in dangerous situations.
She tends to focus on those because she supports Shiki's life with half her life force. Back when they were children, Akiha's real brother, SHIKI, inverted and attempted to kill her. Shiki put himself between the two of them and was killed. Akiha used her demon ability then to bring Shiki back through supporting him with half her own life. So, she gave him his life back, because she loved him, and his choice to put himself in bad situations upsets her. Because half her life force goes to support Shiki, it puts a great deal of strain on her body, requiring her to consume/need twice as much body heat/energy as a normal person. In order to stabilize herself, Akiha began drinking the blood of her maid, Kohaku, who has a special power called synchronization that kept Akiha from inverting. Akiha came to crave the blood which ended up pushing her even more toward inversion. Eventually, SHIKI came after Akiha and the stress from that unexpected confrontation combined with the strain her body was already under caused Akiha to invert where her demon blood was in control of her. Shiki helped her regain control, become a stronger person, and took care of SHIKI, who had become the vessel for a very powerful vampire. Akiha still scolds Shiki for overexerting himself even after all that.
While it is hard to get close to Akiha, it is possible if someone is persistent and up for the challenge. From the canon-point she's being taken from, she's mellowed out, not immediately going for the jugular, so to speak. She even sometimes is amused by her own sadism and finds ways to let some of it out. This has caused her to be called a bully by some, but as always, Akiha doesn't care what others think about her.
Over the course of her time in the Garden, Akiha's personality didn't change so much as some of her sharper edges smoothed out. Without her maid, Akiha was forced to have to learn to provide for herself, which allowed her to have a greater appreciation for the things her maid did and the work others put into things, such as Gal's cooking or Kris' attempts to impress Akiha. She also came to realize that it was possible to love more than one person and, in turn, start to care about the well-being of others. She still won't admit a lot of these things, though she did come to voice her own realization of how poorly she treated people and that she wasn't a nice person by society's standards. Perhaps, Akiha really did grow up a bit in the Garden.
Third-Person Sample:
Akiha had seen some pretty preposterous things over the course of her life. Being a Tohno meant she had to deal with the demon blood running in her from birth, watch her father debilitate and do awful things, and deal with blood and death at the too early age of seven. And it never got better, so her first instinct upon appearing in the dark chamber was to crouch down defensively until her eyes adjusted.
...she'd been drinking tea in the sitting room, waiting for Shiki to come home so she could lecture him on not returning to the mansion when he said he would for what felt like the hundredth time. She did not expect when the sun went down that she would find herself in some foreign place with no explanation as to how she got there. Was it some kind of reality marble, having pulled her in? If that was the case, who was responsible? Oh, the things she'd do to the one responsible; she had better things to be doing than wandering around a room that looked more like a decimated torture chamber than anything remotely in Misaki City. Well, maybe this was just a trick of Kohaku's, using the basement and some special effects to play games on her again. In that case, she would just have to give the maid a piece of her mind!
The flaring of light and static that happened without warning startled Akiha. She tensed up, hand raised to strike, as she blinked her eyes quickly to once again adjust to the light changes. How she hated not being able to see, to focus her sight on what she wanted. It made her feel powerless to not utilize her demon blood. Akiha saw the red shoulder-length hair on the screen and immediately thought--
Wait. That's... that's not Kohaku. Who was that and why was he telling her to stay calm?
Calm? He wanted her to stay calm? What kind of man expects a woman, or anyone for that matter, to stay calm when confronted with what was quickly amounting, in Akiha's mind, to kidnapping.
“You! You will release me now! Do you have any idea WHO I am? Kidnapping the Head of the Tohno family is a very stupid thing to do. You will save yourself a whole lot of trouble if you let me go now. Otherwise, I won't stop him when he comes for you.”
And even if she was released immediately, Akiha would see that whoever this was never made the same foolish mistake again.
Mognet Sample:
Idiot, when I sent you to go find a suitable warrior to join us, I did not mean to take all day to do so. I'm not expecting Musashi Miyamoto, so find someone competent that's less annoying than you. And I swear, if this beast of mine finds you lazing about instead of doing what I asked, you will regret it.
Respond. Immediately.

Demon blood stirring, Akiha's hair turns a vermillion color and she draws a nearby enemy into her grasp. Rapidly draining life energy from her enemy, the target's body appears to ignite on fire causing tremendous damage. Despite the appearance of fire, this is non-elemental damage.
